The Carson-Carousel tract now home to almost 285 families, served as a tank farm of Shell Oil Co. The company has left the area highly contaminated with old oil storage tanks which has proven to be really harmful and fatal to the health to the residents of Carson-Carousel tract.
The extensive contamination underneath the 50-acre Carousel tract is posing a serious threat to the health of the residents. The decade-long exposure to the contaminated air has made the humans in this area prone to cancer, heart and various skin diseases. The abandoned old oil tanks have been continuously emitting hydrocarbons to the soil. Flammable methane pockets to high benzene content in the soil, all this is adding up to give birth to life-threatening health issues to the residents of Carson-Carousel tract.
